UNRELEASED examines the space between public image and private presence through a body of intimate photographs centered around influential figures connected to Hip Hop and contemporary music culture.

Developed over more than a decade, the project moves away from the visual language typically associated with celebrity photography, focusing instead on quieter moments that exist beyond performance and publicity. Created across backstage environments, rehearsals, transitional spaces, and moments between appearances, the photographs emphasize stillness, proximity, and emotional presence over spectacle.

In an era shaped by constant visibility and accelerated image consumption, UNRELEASED reflects on photography’s role not only as documentation, but as a form of cultural memory. Viewed collectively, the works consider how artists are remembered, circulated, and visually constructed, while questioning what remains unseen beneath visibility itself.

I grew up in Italy at a time when Hip Hop felt both distant and deeply present in my life. My connection to the culture came through imported records, magazines, films, album covers, and photography long before I ever picked up a camera myself.

Years later, while living in London, photography unexpectedly became my entry point into the environments and artists I had admired since I was young. What began through concert photography gradually expanded into long-term access shaped by trust, collaboration, and continued presence within these spaces.

Over time, I became less interested in photographing performance itself and more interested in everything surrounding it: the moments before a show begins, the silence after people leave the stage, conversations backstage, exhaustion, reflection, and the emotional shifts that happen away from public attention.

Many of these photographs were never created with exhibition or publication in mind. They developed slowly over years of observation and proximity, eventually forming the foundation of UNRELEASED.

His photographs are sold by Morrison Hotel Gallery and have been exhibited internationally in New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo. His work has appeared in publications including The Guardian, Billboard, and The Independent, and has also been exhibited at the de Young Museum in San Francisco.
